[News] Investment in Aluminum Nitride Substrates

Hansol Chemical has invested in Nitride Solutions, and it closes $3 million in new funding

Nitride Solutions, a US developer and manufacturer of advanced nitride substrates for LEDs, lasers, and power electronics, announced today that it has successfully closed $3M in new funding as Hansol Chemical, Greenpoint Global Mittelstand Fund, and Silicon Pastures Angel Investment Network joined the company's investor group.
Funds will be used to expand production of the company's AlN substrate offerings, as well as to accelerate market introduction of its high-performance thermal management coatings.
Nitride Solutions CEO Jeremy Jones said he is extremely pleased to have Hansol and Greenpoint as investors. "With Hansol we are gaining an important partner in Korea and Japan to exclusively represent our products and share critical customer feedback," Jones said. "Greenpoint brings deep knowledge of companies in Asia that are seeking US manufacturing capability."
Yeunjoo Cho is the vice president of strategic planning for Hansol Chemical. Hansol Chemical is part of Hansol Group and is a leading manufacturer of specialty chemicals in Korea. "We believe that Nitride Solutions' technologies for UV LEDs is truly next-generation and are very excited about this investment and partnership," Cho said. "A partnership of this nature will help us accelerate toward technical leadership in electronic chemicals. In return, Nitride Solutions will gain partnership in the high-demand markets of Asia and will be able to maximize the growth of the company."
Teresa Esser is the managing director of the Greenpoint Global Mittelstand Fund and Silicon Pastures Angel Investment Network. The Greenpoint Global Mittelstand Fund is a private equity fund addressing the significant challenge of exits. The fund's dominant investment strategy is investment in American companies geared for Asian exits, and it maintains considerable relationships with firms in Asia that specifically seek American manufacturing and technology companies.
"We are very pleased with our investment in Nitride Solutions' unique technologies and solutions for advanced electronics," Esser said. "I believe that they bring solutions to some of the most difficult global issues and I look forward to working with their team to bring this to success."
Hansol Chemical, Greenpoint Global Mittelstand Fund, and Silicon Pastures Angel Investment Network join Nitride Solutions' existing national investment group including angel investors from Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Washington (DC), California and Alaska.
Founded in Kansas in 2009, Nitride Solutions' focus is developing volume production processes that will bring new AlN products to advanced electronics markets and enable goods that address global needs for safe water and air, more reliable power generation and transmission, and higher-speed communications.
AlN has a unique combination of properties including wide bandgap, high thermal conductivity, and high voltage resistance. The wide bandgap makes it suitable for deep UV and very high-power devices. Its high thermal conductivity and high voltage resistance enable thinner structures and faster heat reduction, which allow for higher power operation without premature failure.

[Product Description] E-PAM (Emulsion-Polyacrylamide)


E-PAM (Emulsion-Polyacrylamide) of Hansol Chemical was developed through partnership with advanced technology of overseas and a next generation product. Compared with current powder and dispersion type product, it has an excellent flocculation performance, fast dissolution characteristic and economically efficient disposal method.

In particular, emulstion polyacrylamide produced by Hansol is such an advanced product that it can be widely applied to public facilities including industrial wastewater area of dye/textile, papermaking, leather, food, petrochemical, mine industry, urban sewage treatment plan and sanitary treatment
plant.

I. Characteristics of E-PAM of Hansol Chemical

  1. Fast dissolution, easy to use, compared to P-PAM.
  2. Emulsion type allows to automate your factory facilitie.
  3. Applicable throughtout the whole process such as pressure flotation, flocculation, precipitation, condensation, dehydration, etc.

II. How to use E-PAM of Hansol Chemical

  1. Dissolve - Dilute E-PAM with regular industrial water to 0.2~0.5%. Dissolve compltely stirring for 30~60 minutes before use. 
  2. Injection - Shake or stir before use, in case of phase separation behavior.
  3. Amount of Injection - Depending on the circumstances and types of waste water, use E-PAM up to 15ppm during the first flocculation and precipitation process. Use 300ppm to the maximum while dehydrating.

        - Dust inhaling might cause industrial disaster
        - Not elidgible for automation, long time to dissolve (2~3hrs), insoluble portion appears.
        - Excessive invest funds needed compared to emulsion type.
        - Unnecessary space needed for storage.
        - Unable to reach high concentration (more than 0.4%).
        - Linear molecular structure results inefficient rate of centrifugal concentration and dehydration.

[Product Description] Latex

The synthetic latex of Hansol Chemical is a polymer emulsion that is composed of Styrene Monomer, Butadiene and Acryl Monomer. It is milky colored aqueous adhesive, made using polymerization technology.

Factory Building Completion Ceremony Was Held in Xian, China.

Last May, at Xian (of Shanxi Sheng) in China, building completion ceremony for Hydrogen Peroxide factory was held.

Hansol electronic materials Ltd. is one of Hansol chemial's subsidary companies and is for overseas expension in China Hydrogen Peroxide market. Through this factory we plan to sell Hydrogen Peroxide products that are specialized in semiconductor cleaning and LCD etching.

Starting from November 2012, construction continued for a year and a half, and finally completion ceremony was held on a day of May, clothed in sunshine.

Company executives are uncovering the monument together.

On this day, the chairman and executives, including the president of Hansol chemical attended. Other authorized people of Xian factory participated as well.

Continuing on improving product quality and creating new customers, Hansol electronic materials Ltd. will lead Hydrogen Peroxide  market in China. Further more, It will play a role of a bridgehead for overseas expansion of Hansol Chemical.

We hope to see the day when Hansol Chemical becomes a global chemical company.

Introducing Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)

The Science of Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide is a odorless, colorless, transparent and acidic liquid compound. Alone it is chemically stable, but when mixed with metal or other organic materials a chemical reaction occurs leaving behind decomposed residue of water and oxygen.
Depending on the environment and force of the reaction, unintended mixtures can be explosive but since water and oxygen are the results of any reaction there is no concern for secondary pollution or hazard.

Manufacturing

Hydrogen Peroxide is made from a reaction between Hydrogen and Oxygen.

Here is an example of the process chain that results in our final product.

>>Hydrogenation
Hydrogen is collected in a chamber and mixed with a solution called Anthraquinone (AQ) which acts as a catalyst to create Hydroquinone (HQ).

>>Oxidation
The newly made hydroquinone is mixed with oxygen and the chemical reaction creates two bi-products. Hydrogen Peroxide and Anthraquinone. H2O2 is pumped into the extraction chamber and the AQ is collected and recycled back for reuse in the hydrogenation process.

>>Extraction
Water is injected into the fresh Hydrogen Peroxide and the raw batch is produced.

>>Concentration
Here the final touches are made to create the specific concentration and grade of H2O2 tailored to fit each customers’ needs.

The combined process, called auto-oxidation, is just one part of Hansol’s technical expertise that has enabled it to be the nation’s #1 manufacturer of hydrogen peroxide.
